What is a Keyless Entry Deadbolt?

A keyless entry deadbolt is a type of lock that doesn’t use a traditional key that is inserted into a keyhole to open the lock. Instead, it uses a number of different mechanisms to allow you access into your home.

One of these mechanisms is the pushbutton lock which is made up of a series of numbered buttons similar to a telephone keypad. To unlock the lock you must enter the correct sequence of digits and only then will you be able to turn the handle or push the lever to go inside.

Biometric access is another type of keyless entry deadbolt and these use fingerprint scanners, voice recognition technology and on high end locks iris scanners to determine if you are authorized to unlock the door.

Still others use a sensor similar to the newer car keys where a door will unlock if you approach the lock and touch a sensor or handle because the key is read by the car’s security computer to determine if it has a valid match once the sensor has been triggered even if the key is in your pocket or purse.

No matter what type of keyless entry deadbolt you decide upon at least you will be moving in the right direction towards making your home more secure.

Even a 10 year old child can defeat your keyed locks!

This is because most houses have cheap locks that can be easily picked by a skilled thief but even more horrifying is the recent popularity of lock bumping which can be learnt on the internet by anyone because it takes no special skills.

Now more than ever it is important to replace any locks that have a keyhole. Not only does this eliminate lock bumping and picking it also wipes out any possibility of having your lock vandalized.

You will never have to worry about someone putting glue, sand or a toothpick in your locks again because you have no keyhole to vandalize!

But, don’t let the fact that you have a keyless deadbolt give you a false sense of security because they are not all created equal.

A cheap door lock is a cheap door lock no matter what the locking mechanism is and if you buy a cheap keyless entry deadbolt you will still be vulnerable to vandalism if you have just a keypad that can be broken.

Additionally, many keypad door locks also use a regular key as a backup and even if they are advertised as being pick resistant they still can be picked by a skilled burglar, it just might take them a minute or two longer.

What About Biometric Keyless Entry Deadbolts?

Biometric devices have come a long way but they still have their flaws and anything that is exposed like a microphone hole or glass sensor plate is a target for vandals as well as the extreme weather that occurs in most parts of the country.

Cheap locks can also be easily sawed, drilled and slammed with a sledge hammer so when picking any type of keyless lock make sure it is built strong enough to withstand any attempts to break or force it.

One lock that is built tough and is made to withstand all types of attacks and weather is the Sunnect AP501 Electronic Deadbolt. This lock is so strong that it can withstand a direct hit from a bullet and still work!
